Steve Wilder, BA, CHSP, STS
Senior Consultant & CEO

Steve Wilder has spent nearly 40 years in healthcare safety, security, and risk management. He has provided consultation services to hundreds of clients, including hospitals, long-term care, home care agencies, clinics, physician practices and pre-hospital/EMS services. Steve has performed security vulnerability assessments and mock OSHA audits at over 400 healthcare facilities across the United States and has trained thousands of workers in workplace safety and security.  Steve spent 15 years as a hospital risk manager, and five years as corporate risk manager over 15 long term care facilities.

An experienced trial expert, Steve consults for law firms and insurance companies on issues of healthcare safety, security, non-clinical risk management, aggression management, and workplace violence. He also has written numerous articles for healthcare magazines and trade journals. He and his partner Chris Sorensen are co-authors of the book The Essentials of Aggression Management in Healthcare: From Talk down to Takedown.  He is also a frequent contributor to multiple healthcare trade journals.

Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Governor's State University in University Park, Illinois.  He is a board-certified Healthcare Safety Professional and holds certifications in C-FATS and HSEEP with the United States Department of Homeland Security.

In 2014, Sorensen, Wilder & Associates introduced their program “The Active Shooter in the Healthcare Facility…Planning For…Responding To…and Recovering From the Unthinkable”.  Since that time, they have provided the training to thousands of healthcare professional across the nation, including over 30 different state associations and healthcare systems.  Today, they have become the recognized industry leader in healthcare workplace violence prevention programs and healthcare active shooter preparedness programs in the United States.

In 2019, Steve was the recipient of the Illinois Security Professionals Association award for Emergency Preparedness Leadership for his role in assisting a retirement community in Pennsylvania after two residents were murdered in their apartment.

Dereck Mattson

Dereck Mattson joined Christensen Group in 2017.  Previously, Dereck held the position of Producer in the Senior Living Division of a prominent insurance company.

Dereck has a specific focus in the following industries:

Dereck graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Management.  He holds an Associate in General Insurance (AINS) designation. Dereck is involved with several state associations including; LeadingAge Minnesota, Care Providers of Minnesota, and the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association (WALA).
