Adverse Event Management Training Staff for Crisis Response

A key element of senior care management is teaching staff to manage a significant adverse event that is highly likely to result in a liability claim/lawsuit. A significant event or Potentially Compensable Event (PCE) is defined as any adverse event resulting in serious injury or death. These event types include falls with serious injury, acts of workplace violence (active shooter, resident on resident violence, staff violence), physical and or sexual abuse, resident/patient elopements, medication errors and any other event causing permanent resident/patient harm, requiring life-saving intervention, or contributing to death. In these cases, the healthcare team is appropriately focused on clinical care. Activity to maximize the defensibility of a future claim is secondary at the moment and should be. It is critical that staff are trained on how to respond to such events.

This workshop will cover basic steps to take to ensure staff are ready to respond effectively to a major adverse event and is presented by Christensen Group Insurance and Pendulum Risk Management.
