Auto insurance for storm damage
Severe weather often reminds us how quickly road conditions can change. Spring storms can bring hail, wind-blown debris, falling branches, and flash flooding, leading to vehicle damage.
Comprehensive insurance is designed to help cover damage from non-collision losses, including weather events.
Several optional coverages can make a comprehensive claim less stressful. These add-ons don’t replace comprehensive insurance, but they can close gaps and reduce out-of-pocket costs:
- Roadside assistance can help if you’re stranded due to a flat tire or a dead battery.
- Towing coverage can help pay the bill if your vehicle must be towed after an accident.
- Gap insurance can help cover the difference between the insurer’s payout and the total amount owed to your lienholder if your car is a total loss after a covered accident or incident.
- Rental reimbursement can pay for a rental car while yours is in the shop after a covered loss.

Review your auto insurance
Many drivers assume that damage caused by spring weather is covered, only to discover that their policy doesn’t include comprehensive coverage or that certain endorsements could have been helpful in the aftermath of vehicle damage caused by weather conditions.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, marking the start of the riding season in many states.
Motorcyclists are at a disadvantage on the road, as their vehicles are smaller and can be difficult to see in traffic. Motorcycle riders are overrepresented in fatal accidents, making up 15% of all traffic fatalities in 2024, according to the latest National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data.
Tips for motorists:
- Yield to motorcyclists, especially when turning at intersections.
- Continuously scan for motorcyclists, pedestrians, and bicyclists and proceed with caution.
- Allow for plenty of space around a motorcycle when following in traffic.
- Never drive distracted.
- Look for motorcyclists when turning at intersections, especially with an obscured view of oncoming traffic.
