About the Best Practices Study
Since 1993, the Big “I” and Reagan Consulting have partnered to produce the annual Best Practices Study, a comprehensive examination of the nation’s top-performing agencies. The study provides benchmarking data across revenue growth, profitability, financial stability, expense management, and productivity.
Every three years, insurance companies, state associations, and industry organizations nominate agencies considered to be among the best in their revenue categories. Agencies then complete an extensive survey detailing financial and operational performance. Results are scored and ranked objectively to determine which agencies earn the Best Practices designation.
The 2025 Best Practices Study marks the beginning of a new three-year cycle (2025–2028). This year’s study introduces two new revenue categories, separating agencies with $25–100 million in revenue and those with over $100 million, replacing the previous single category of over $25 million.
